The Goose Is Out!
The Ivy House - 40 Stuart Road London SE15 3BE
Thomas McCarthy, Donal Maguire, Racker Donnelly : The Goose Is Out! The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road, SE15 3BE. Friday 29 Sept.. Doors open 7pm. Tickets : http://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout .......... Thomas McCarthy has appeared at the Goose several times, including at our benefit concert in aid of Help Refugees, and each time has been absolutely brilliant.Tonight he is replacing Gerry O’Reilly, thanks Thomas! .......... Thomas is a singer from an Irish Traveller family in Birr, County Offaly. From a considerable dynasty of traditional singers, song-makers and musicians, Thomas grew up surrounded by the singing of his late mother, her father and aunts and uncles and now lives in London........... ‘The greatest Irish traditional singer in fifty years’ – Joe Power, Conneries’ Singing Club, Waterford .......... http://www.thomasmccarthyfolk.com/ .......... Dónal Maguire has long been a well-known face on the folk scene. He was a resident at the Singers Club back in the day, along with Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger........... While Dónal has been primarily associated with unaccompanied singing, he has significant other ‘strings to his bow’. He is a fine interpreter of contemporary material, as well as an excellent singer of traditional material, and can accompany himself on a range of stringed instruments. He is universally recognised as one of the finest players of Irish dance music on mandolin and tenor banjo .......... http://www.donalmaguire.co.uk/index.html ..... You won’t have heard anything like Racker Donnelly. Unless of course, you’ve seen Racker Donnelly before. In which case you will have (and will be here tonight!) .......... Brilliant. Genius. Lovely stuff – BBC Radio 4 ..... A wonderful performer – Martin Carthy ..... Never less than brilliant. The best performance poet I’ve ever heard: a breath of fresh air on the London folk scene. Racker for Poet Laureate! – Ken Hall ..... http://www.rackerdonnelly.com/ ..... Video Links below: ..... https://youtu.be/p9QtafI87Ag .......... https://youtu.be/2OyRTbIOsNo .......... https://youtu.be/nB_XS4gp6WA ..........

Jim had a very hectic 2016, which included not just releasing two albums of his own, but also appearing as a guest artist on FOUR other albums, including those of Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage, and Chris Foster,.......... Jim Causley is a folk singer and musician from Devon who specializes in thetraditional songs and music of the West Country. Hailing from the village of Whimple in East Devon, Jim was born in Exeter and is related to the Cornish poet Charles Causley........... Jim grew up surrounded by traditional music from his family. His village was in the heart of cider country, with its thriving wassailing tradition, and also close to Sidmouth and Dartmoor folk festivals. Jim was a longstanding member of the Pennymoor Singaround............. After studying Performing Arts and Jazz & Popular Music at Exeter College, Jim went on to study Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University, and it was there that he began gaining a reputation as a talented singer on the wider UK folk scene........... https://youtu.be/qtyzrq_sIjU .......... http://www.jimcausley.co.uk/ ..........
